Different style Lauki kofta

bottle gourd,lauki(ghiya)in hindi,dudhi in Gujarati is generally not a popular and favourite vegetable in indian household but it create a very delicious indian recipe which is called kofta.

Generally it is made with lauki,gram flour and other spices.it is a round shaped deep fried dumplings. But I’m not going to deep fry these koftas and will add some secret ingredients too 😉

Ingredients for kofta:(8 koftas)

200 gm grated bottle gourd

1/4 teaspoon asafoetida/hing

1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder/haldi

3 green chilli finely chopped

1/2 teaspoon ginger garlic paste

2 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves

2 tablespoon thick curd

2 tablespoon soaked moong dal

1/4 cup gram flour/besan

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

Salt as per taste

Oil for shallow fry

Ingredients for Curry:

2 tablespoon oil

1/2 teaspoon cumin seed/jeera

2 medium size onion sliced

7 garlic cloves chopped

2 medium size chopped tomatoes

1 inch chopped ginger

3 green chilli chopped

1 teaspoon coriander powder

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon kashmiri chilli Powder

1/3 cup curd

1/2 teaspoon sugar

1 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves

Water

Instruction:

Squeeze all the water from grated lauki with the help of muslin cloth.transfer the squeezed lauki in a mixing bowl and reserve the water to make curry.

Now add all the ingredients with squeeze lauki mentioned under kofta Ingredients except oil.mix it very well.

Heat oil in pan,apply water between your palm. Now divide the mixture in 8 equal portion and make round shaped ball and drop into to the hot oil one by one, shallow fry both both side on low medium flame untill golden brown.

Transfer the oil in a container and keep 2 tablespoon oil,reduce the flame.add cumin seed and let it splutter. Further add ginger,garlic, green chilli and saute well.

Add onion, saute until Translucent then add hing, coriander powder, turmeric powder,red chilli and mix well.

Add tomatoes and cook till soften.add curd,1/2 teaspoon coriander powder,red chilli Powder in a bowl and whisk together. Transfer this mixture to the pan,once tomatoes are cooked.

Add lauki juice, sugar and 1 cup water to the pan.adjust the salt,stir and simmer for 10 minutes on low flame.

Add shallow fried koftas in Curry, switch off the flame and cover the pan with the lid for 10 minutes.

Kofta curry is ready,garnish with chopped coriander and serve with rice and chapati.
